In response to Maxwell's Tupolski pictures I went looking for photos that would help cultivate creative thought about the character of Ariel, who we see smoking cigarettes throughout the entire book (though I am not sure if it has been decided if this will be incorporated or not).
Either way, here are some ideas on the character of Ariel;
Declan, I've been thinking about the smoking. I know they've allowed (this semester) two other shows to have onstage smoking (herbal cigs), but I've also heard those were exceptions to the rule and we won't be allowed the same privilege. Whether or not this is true, it got me brainstorming about why you smoke in the first place.
ReplyDeleteWe'd have to talk through it more, but i think there's something very strong in the choice that perhaps you ready yourself for smoking, get it out, put it in your mouth, etc...but then you never actually light your cigarettes. You just put them in an ashtray (whole) after a while of having it dangle from your mouth. I like the ritual behind lighting a cigarette, and the haphazardness of Ariel not actually smoking it. Let me know what you think.
