A scene from "Children of Men" - the entire movie's sound is great, but this scene in particular has some wonderful, subtle (and not so subtle) work. Hear past the gun shots to the white noise.
Also, I feel like what might have inspired them to use that high-pitched tone for this scene was the sound one would hear after exposure to a lot of loud noises results in a perforated or ruptured eardrum. I think this could be particularly useful for us as a transition from the moment when Katurian is shot to his final monologue, but it's certainly a great device for mounting energy and tension regardless of the context.
First of all, that was so good.
